“Before buying I saw a demo put on by a local dealer that tested the 974 FlexDraper against a regular flex auger in lentils yielding 8-10 bags/acre. You could see to the line where one grower stopped and the other grower started – the 974 was cutting that much lower than the competition. That sold me. We grow canola, barley, wheat, faba beans, chick peas and lentils, and can cut it all with the 974 which converts easily between rigid and flex configurations. When cutting lentils, we really need to shave the ground. Last year’s crop was so bad we had to hug the ground and cut at 30 mm to strip it. With the 974’s float optimizer and centered reel we were hugging the ground and knocking the plants onto the draper, and yet still achieve a ground speed of about 7.5 km/h. The way the front sits on the adapter and floats, was surprising. To watch the float optimizer float independent from the header was impressive. Other growers have to put rubber paddles on their fronts to achieve what I was doing with the 974. They could see I could cut without expensive modifications and they would ask me to come strip their crops. Now that we know what the 974 can do with a bad crop, we can’t wait to see what it can do in a good one.”
